Our production manager, Greg Kuykendall, comes from a long line of landscapers. You could even say he was born to be in the business. Greg’s father and uncle started Ground Masters, a major landscaping company in Cincinnati. Growing up in Madeira, Greg learned at an early age about landscaping and gardening from his father.
From Student to Seiler’s
Greg originally attended the University of Tennessee for electrical engineering, but transferred to the University of Cincinnati after a short while. Ultimately he decided outdoor work was perfect for him, and went straight into the landscaping business at 20. His stepbrother was working for Seiler’s at the time. Greg decided to give it a shot and stuck with it. He has been with Seiler’s Landscaping since 2000.
As a production manager, Greg’s day-to-day duties make him a jack of all trades. He checks on jobs before the crew gets there and helps plan their days and organize what needs to be done. He meets with clients to assess their needs and goals for their landscape, makes sales and assists out salespeople with hardscape design. He evaluates and analyzes hardscape proposals and gives any feedback on the timing and materials for the project. He is also responsible for managing trucks, equipment and the field crew.
Greg says his favorite thing about landscaping is, “turning someone’s yard into something beautiful.” He especially enjoys working on projects that involve hardscapes like retaining walls and patios.
Outside of Work
Greg and his family love to vacation. He and his wife Pamela enjoyed visits to the beach in Cabo every summer for a few years. Now they take family trips to Lake Cumberland and spend a weekend or two there each summer. Greg is a self-labeled “beach guy.” A recent project is teaching his 17-year-old son to drive, which Greg describes as “scary and fun at the same time.” Meanwhile, his 4-year-old daughter keeps Greg busy with soccer, swimming and tumbling. With so much going on, it’s no wonder the family savors downtime on the water!
