Our maintenance crew leader, Doug Kennedy, was born and raised in Cincinnati and his love for landscaping runs deep. Learn more about Doug and how he found his passion for the outdoors and landscaping.
Doug originally started in the hotel and retail industry, following in his father’s footsteps. It was also his father who told him he should leave the retail industry if he wanted a family. “So I got into landscaping even though I didn’t know anything but how to cut my own grass,” Doug says. He started with a very small company helping with drainage issues and eventually running the detail division, working on aspects like flowers and trimming. He then moved to a significantly larger, nationally known company where he met our maintenance manager, Elliot Rubin. Elliot eventually left to work for Seiler’s. Two years ago he told Doug about how great a workplace Seiler’s is and Doug made the leap to our team. “Because my previous company was so large, you didn’t feel like a part of a family but more like you were just a number. At Seiler’s we are more of a family and everyone is very caring about you and your family at home.”
At Seiler’s, Doug works on our maintenance team with jobs like mowing, mulching, trimming, edging and detailing. He started running the detailing department for our Seiler’s 360 services. “There are so many different talents and people with different knowledge at Seiler’s and that helps bring the best service to customers,” Doug says.
While working at Seiler’s, Doug has discovered his love for flowers. At his previous job he oversaw all of the flowers and learned a lot about them but when he came to work for Seiler’s, “they taught me even more about flowers than I thought I knew. There is always someone willing to show you how to do things at Seiler’s. I love flowers because you can make designs with them. Now that Seiler’s takes on more residential projects I am able to show off my talent and background. I love setting up a flower bed and giving it a ‘wow factor.’”
Outside of work, Doug lives with his girlfriend and two stepsons. He loves music, concerts and especially karaoke. In fact, Doug met his girlfriend at a karaoke night. His family enjoys sports, movies and attending Comic-Con together. They are also major Bengals and Miami Dolphins fans.
